Thistle Bird Feeder

This Townsend’s Warbler has been visiting my seed feeders multiple times a day since early December. Warblers, and especially this species, are supposed to feed almost exclusively on insects. For one to visit a feeder on a regular basis is extremely unusual and to my knowledge has not been recorded before. I’ve insepected the bag of seed and no traces of moths or other insects are present, meaning that the bird is not picking out insect larvae from the feeder, but rather eating the seed itself. I have also seen this bird pick up seeds I poured on an outdoor ledge.

This bird has been coming to my feeders for about a month now.It’s been hanging with a flock of sparrows.It’s about the size of a cardinal,does what the sparrows do,just hangs out mostly on the ground,eating seeds. It has a finch-like bill ( but it isn’t a grosbeak),it’s a gray color with some streaking on the head and breast.I am stymied,as I can not find it in any of my bird books. Can anyone tell me what it is?

Oh,sorry! I’m in NE Ohio,and I think it’s too big to be a warbler,and it’s beak is so finch-like.Also,it eats seeds,unlike warblers, which are insectivores.
mccalley – no,a sora is more of a shorebird,and all of the finches are ones that I’ve seen. It sort of reminds me if a cowbird,but it’s the wrong color.
Dot! – No wonder it reminded me of a cowbird!! That’s what it is! Probably hangs with the sparrows because it was raised by sparrows,since cowbirds lay their eggs in the nests of other birds. I’ve never seen a juvenile one that I know of,but now I know what they look like! Thank you!

Finches have a veracious appetite for Niger Seeds. I have three feeders and they eat about one kilo of seed a week.

This is a video about my zebra finches. They are the same age but bought in different shops so they cant be brother and sister because I want to breed them. Here I gave them some salad because in th hot summer a leaf of green salad can be a great treat for them to get moisture and to be fresh. That nest there is a canary nest which I changed after this video. Their cage is not that big bur it is very practical and my finches seem to be happy in it. How to make a simple bird feeder! Materials: A plastic bottle(washed, cleaned, dried) with lid Utility knife Wooden or bamboo skewer Hot glue Tape(possibly, I didn’t use it Paper Towels or tissue paper String or Yarn Birdseed!!!

A blackbird climbed into my feeder and got stuck! It’s supposed to be squirrel and big bird proof, but the squirrel can pop the lid off of the thing faster than I can fasten it on. And when the lid is off, the birds climb down the center tube and get seeds that way, instead of having to climb through the mesh to get to it.
The blackbird climbed down and can’t climb back up! He’s been stuck a few hours now, and I don’t think he’s getting out on his own. What can I do?

Can you put black oil sunflower seeds into a thistle feeder?
